On the technical side the D400 has a 10.1MP sensor with an automatic cleaning system to ensure that dust on the sensor is less of a problem, a 2.5 inch sharp display, a high quality viewfinder which has a proximity sensor that turns off the display while in use. The 400D uses the highly acclaimed Digic II image processing engine and now also features a nine-point AF assist system which is extremely quick and accurate even in low light. The excellent control system makes the numerous image manipulation and shooting mode options accessible with ease also including a new Picture-Style option with nine pre-set Picture settings all of which can be customized for sharpness, contrast, saturation and colour tone. When it comes to performance the 400D does not disappoint and provides excellent access times and fast and responsive shooting even in RAW and Fine Image modes. Not surprisingly the image quality of the 400D is also superb but does not really outshine competing models. The only weak point of the 400D is the bundled lens kit which limits the use of the true potential of this superb camera.
