The PSP is Sony's first venture into the world of portable gaming highlighted by a sleek ,stylish design and an impressive 480x272, 16.77 million colors wide-screen display. Boasting mobility while delivering impressive graphic quality similar to that of the Playstation 2 and including sophisticated multimedia features, such as picture viewing, audio and video playback capabilities, a built in WiFi connection and web browser, the PSP is certainly more than just a game system. However, despite these various features the PSP lacks innovative game content and features such as those of the competing Nintendo DS Lite. The most concerning downside of the PSP is the limited battery time, ranging from 3-4 hours for games/video and 11 hours for music. Multimedia usage on the PSP is also not ideal, video Playback is restricted only to files converted to a special format, and you will need to purchase separate Sony Memory Stick flash cards in order to extend the mere 32MB included storage if you wish to store more media files. The PSP is held in both hands with controls at both sides and does have rather good (but not ideal) ergonomics. At the top of the device there is a USB connector and media slot for games and officially licensed movies which come on Sony's proprietary UMD discs, while the Memory Stick slot is located at the side. Despite not excelling in any specific field compared to dedicated devices the PSP is no doubt a one of a kind all around solution.
